The Survival Tour rolls into Birmingham

Five incredible cycling enthusiasts from the world of live events, have taken on the challenge to ride the length of England to raise awareness of the issues being faced by the industry.

The #WeMakeEvents charity cycle has been organised by the teams at Loud Sound and Proper Productions, with support from Crossland Bussing. Riding from Newcastle to London, they are marking what would have been the start of touring season.

En route, they are also raising funds for Backup, a charity for entertainment technology professionals in need of support.

The 10th October saw them arrive in Birmingham and we were delighted to give them a warm welcome at the ICC, Utilita Arena Birmingham and Resorts World Arena – three of the hundred venues and festival sites the team hopes to visit across just two weeks.

Local riders have been joining them at each stage, with our very own Guy Dunstan, Managing Director of the NEC Group Arenas, taking to the saddle from Birmingham to Warwick the following day. “The Survival Tour team are doing a phenomenal job at raising awareness of the live event industry’s current plight across the country. On behalf of the whole team here in Birmingham, I’ll be riding with them for the ninth leg of their journey to show our support.”

#WeMakeEvents was originally launched by PLASA in April 2020 as a result of the impact of COVID-19 on their membership and wider supply chain to events.

The Campaign grew to include over 21 industry bodies along with many companies and professionals in the UK. This led to the original ‘Red Alert – throw us a line’ day of Action on 11th August 2020 across the UK.  he success of this initial activity has led to a global movement, coming together in a spirit of mutual support and solidarity.
