Location, Location, Location

The Midlands is an extraordinary place to be right now and the NEC Group venues are ideally located right at its heart, benefiting from unrivalled accessibility by road, rail and air.

Birmingham is now emerging as a world city and Greater Birmingham has never been more attractive for business; it’s rapidly growing, it’s taking control of its political destiny; it’s a magnet for investment and it has an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit.

The Midlands is an extraordinary place to be right now and the NEC Group venues are ideally located right at its heart, benefiting from unrivalled accessibility by road, rail and air.

In fact, 75% of the UK’s population live within a three-hour travel time of NEC Group venues, while two major rail stations – Birmingham New Street in the city for the Barclaycard Arena and the ICC, and Birmingham International linking to the NEC, Genting Arena and the Vox – offer stress-free travel options.

Add to this Birmingham International Airport, adjacent to the NEC and less than 15 minutes on a train from the city centre, and NEC Group venues have access to over 140 direct and chartered flights across Europe, North America and Asia plus an additional 280 possible connections, linking shows with audiences across the world and maximising location and value for money.

We have five venues based within the Birmingham area:

With over 40 years’ experience in the exhibition, meetings and live events’ industries, NEC Group International - which offers consultancy services and venue management to those organisations who are considering either building a new live events venue, or who are revisiting their current facilities - currently holds the management contract for The Convention Centre Dublin (CCD), Ireland’s first purpose-built convention centre.

The award-winning CCD is recognised as one of the top four convention centres in the world by AIPC (International Association of Congress Centres).

In addition to holding the management contract for The Convention Centre Dublin (CCD), NEC Group International has acted as consultant to a range of prestigious projects with clients including the Villeurbanne Arena in Lyon, Asia-World Expo in Hong Kong, the Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre in Reykjavik and the Datong Expo in China.

It is now actively pursuing new, specific opportunities, bringing with it expertise from the NEC Group in all areas of venue management including ticketing, catering, hospitality and commercial marketing specialisms, as well as operational expertise, consolidated market research and knowledge sharing – all of which combine to provide a holistic approach to venue management designed to create exceptional customer experiences and maximise commercial returns.

Birmingham’s dynamicity, creativity and connectivity help attract over 34 million visitors each year, while its ability to evolve means it never stands still, offering something for everyone.

Birmingham is now emerging as a world city and has been ranked the UK’s most popular destination outside London for corporate conferences and events. It is also the most investable city in the UK.

To make the most of what it has to offer, the NEC Group is working with Birmingham City Council to create a vision for the future of the NEC site, building on the opening of Resorts World Birmingham in October 2015.

Resorts World marked the start of a new, ground-breaking era for the NEC Group and the Midlands as a whole. It brings an estimated three million additional visitors per year to businesses based on the NEC site alone, adding to the three million already welcomed annually.

Resorts World comprises a four-star boutique hotel and Asian-themed Santai Spa; a casino offering a contemporary and exciting gaming experience; an outlet shopping centre with 50 units; an 11-screen IMAX cinema operated by Cineworld; a multi-use banqueting and conferencing facility the Vox catering for up to 900 delegates (managed by the NEC Group’s ICC team); and 18 restaurants and bars offering a wide range of food and beverage experiences.

The NEC site masterplan will extend existing uses of the site, creating a 24/7 destination of international significance. The plans will build on the fantastic connectivity the site already benefits from by road, rail and air, and will capitalise on the planned improvements to that connectivity, in particular through the High Speed 2 rail station that will be built on land adjacent to the site.

Building on the success of The Convention Centre Dublin, in addition to delivering a destination offer anchored by Resorts World Birmingham on the NEC site, the NEC Group is now looking to expand its portfolio of conference, exhibition and arena venue management contracts and to demonstrate its capability to extend services and skills outside of the Midlands.

This is important for the Group’s future and growth ambitions as it will open up new revenue streams and new opportunities.
