The whole country is glued to the fourth series of BBC1's multi-award winning show The Apprentice that sees no-nonsense, self made millionaire Sir Alan Sugar put 16 aspiring tycoons through the 'job interview from hell' in his search to find his latest Apprentice.
'This is a business boot camp. Mary Poppins I am not' Sir Alan told the 16 wannabes at the start of the series. Eight weeks into The Apprentice and just half the candidates are left standing. This week's programme (Wednesday 14 May) sees Sir Alan send Alpha and Renaissance to the National Wedding Show at The NEC in Birmingham. Their task; to sell wedding dresses to brides-to-be at the UK's biggest and best wedding show. They have just one day to visit bridal businesses to conduct research, and success depends on choosing the right products to sell to the right market.
Sir Alan couldn't have chosen a better wedding event to send the teams to, as the National Wedding Show is the busiest bridal retail environment in the country, with more exhibitors and more visitors than any other event. With over 300 exhibitors at the show competition is fierce, but will the candidates be able to adapt their usual hard-sell techniques for this most emotional and personal of purchases? And how will the boys cope with selling such 'girly' products? The team that makes the most money on the day of the show will win. The losing team will face Sir Alan back in the boardroom where someone will hear the immortal words 'You're fired!' The pressure is on as they know if they get this wrong it could cost them the task and ultimately their chance to win The Apprentice. Winner of the first series, Tim Campbell knows how tough the process is, saying: 'The tasks in the show are really intense and nothing can be more intensive than dealing with someone's special day. Even with a captive audience the candidates have to get it right first time.'
The National Wedding Show returns to The NEC, Birmingham, from October 10 - 12 this year. With more than 300 exhibitors selling everything you could possibly need for the big day - dresses, groomswear, occasionwear, accessories, photography, flowers, honeymoon destinations, venues, cakes and much, much more - plus catwalk shows, expert advice, live makeovers, champagne bar and UK's largest collection of wedding dresses in one place it really is THE place to be - and who knows who you might bump in to!? |
