Workplace Transport

The NEC Group is committed to ensuring that the health and safety of everyone onsite is an upmost priority. As part of this commitment the group recognises the importance of managing and controlling vehicle movement throughout the site, especially during periods of heavy traffic.

Over time the site has become increasingly active and as a means of managing traffic flow we have implemented a deposit system along with a range of other measures; this will make a significant contribution to meeting the requirements of the HSE Guidelines regarding Workplace Transport.

Workplace Transport
Workplace Transport is a term referring to any vehicle that is used in a work environment, such as forklift trucks, compact dumpers, tractors or mobile cranes. It can also include cars, vans and large goods vehicles when they are operating off the public highway.

It specifically excludes transport on the public highway, air, rail or water transport, and specialised transport used in underground mining.

Deposit System
The Deposit System is a process that controls the movement of vehicles around site - particularly on the inner areas during extremely busy / congested periods. The control is facilitated by allocating time slots to vehicles whilst they are unloading in a designated area. In essence a deposit is required from all vehicles that are issued with a ticket that must be displayed; failure to display a ticket may result in the vehicle being towed away.

Safety Violation
The Safety Violation Process with a range of other measures will make a significant contribution to meeting the requirements of the HSE Guidelines regarding Workplace Transport.

A Safety Violation Notification (SVN) is a process that will record on a standard form vehicles/drivers who have failed to adhere to The NEC site Traffic rules. These rules are displayed at all points of entry to The NEC site in addition to the leaflets handed out to new onsite visitors.
