Two new food and beverage outlets, La Tasca and Costa Coffee, have been announced as the latest occupiers of the new retail units incorporated into the newly refurbished Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham

Five new retail units were added along the canal side of the arena as part of the £26million redevelopment to increase the catering offering for visitors as well as creating a link between the venue and city centre for passers-by.

Spanish restaurant chain, La Tasca, opened their doors on March 16th and will provide Spanish hospitality and cuisine in what will be their only restaurant in Birmingham. The tapas restaurant is the second restaurant to open at the Barclaycard Arena alongside Ed’s Easy Diner who launched in December.

Following on from Ed’s Easy Diner and La Tasca, the newest lease agreement to have been signed is for a Costa Coffee outlet, the UK’s favourite coffee shop, who will occupy a unit of just over 1,700 sq ft.

Simon Wilkinson, CEO of the LTR Grupo de Restaurantes, said: “Under new management & ownership La Tasca has completely revolutionised since we closed the old site in the city back in 2012.

Our food is now made with over 85% of the menu delivered fresh daily and sourced from local Spanish producers. We also specialise in 14 different sangria cocktails. We are delighted to be bringing our new brand to the redeveloped Barclaycard Arena and the city of Birmingham”

George Abuaita, spokesperson for the Costa Coffee franchise, said: ""Costa, the nation's favourite coffee shop are pleased to announce that we are opening a brand new store at the Barclaycard Arena, at the end of March, as with all of our new store openings we will do all that we can to integrate ourselves with the local community, getting involved with the events at the arena; as well as providing the store as an attractive and popular social meeting place.”

Phil Mead, Managing Director of Arenas at the NEC Group, said: “It’s fantastic to be able to add well known and established brands, La Tasca and Costa Coffee, as tenants to the Barclaycard Arena.

“Their decision to locate their new businesses here reflects the transformation of the Arena and the ambition we have to regenerate the canal side as a vibrant destination for eating, drinking and dining out.”

GVA acted on behalf of the landlord for the Costa Coffee letting and Davis Coffer Lyons was the landlord’s agent acting in respect of La Tasca.
