Temporary Vacancies
Throughout the year The NEC Group has a large number of temporary vacancies available, providing employment opportunities.

The availability of temporary employment varies according to the size and number of events taking place and the hours of work and regularity of employment varies from department to department.

Having registered for temporary work individuals are then contacted and offered specific periods of work, when available. Individuals who have been placed on a departmental temporary staff register are asked to make themselves available for work at short notice.

Here is a brief summary of the types of positions that can become available:

Catering (at The NEC/ICC/NIA & REP)
Applicants are expected to be smart, clean and reliable with excellent Customer Care skills. No experience is required unless specifically stated as training will be given, however a work reference is usually required. Our main criteria when looking for new staff is enthusiasm and a pleasant personality. For positions which involve the handling of cash a written work reference is required. Temporary staff would be employed on a week to week basis with a range of shifts patterns to suit both the Company and the individual.

The types of positions that we recruit to covers a large range and includes; Kitchen Porters, Glass Collectors, Kiosk Assistants, Cashiers, Trolley Staff (The NEC), Bar Staff, Foodsnack Assistants, Silver Service Waiting Staff, Wine Staff, Food Service and Food Preparation Assistants, Cooks/Chefs, Furniture Porters.

Security
Security has a large recruitment register of several hundred officers. Due to the amount of officers needed we are always looking to register people for the roles of Temporary Security Staff & Traffic Officers and Concert Stewards.

You should be over 18 years of age, fit and healthy and of smart appearance. Together with a cheerful outlook, you will be confident, customer focused, reliable and a good communicator who is flexible to accommodate working shifts. You may be required to work in any of the The NEC Group venues. All applicants must supply a 10 year work history and be prepared to attend relevant training courses when required.

Technical
The Technical Department is responsible for staging, lighting, audio visual and sound provision for events ranging from small meetings to major product launches.

We regularly recruit casual stage hands, which involves; moving scenery, erecting flats and drapes, laying dance floors and installing staging. There is also involvement with lighting, sound systems and audio visual equipment. This would usually occur before and after the particular events. We operate a fully flexible shift system, with a guaranteed minimum 4 hour call out.

Venue Contracts Administrator – Maternity Cover

Based at The NEC, this is a unique and exciting opportunity working in the Legal Services covering maternity leave on a Fixed Term contract.

Your role will involve working with all of our group venues and clients. Key areas of responsibility will include the preparation and administration of venue contracts, assisting with the administration of the group compliance responsibilities and providing support to members of the Legal Service Team.

Conscientious, with good communication and interpersonal skills, you will have an eye for detail and be able to work to tight deadlines. Fully computer literate, you will be educated to ‘A’ Level standard or equivalent.

Market Researcher – The ICC (Fixed Term – 9 month contract)

The ICC, Birmingham is the UK’s leading conference centre and hosts 500 events per year. We are looking to increase our international association conference business and are recruiting an International Market Researcher to identify new international opportunities for our sales team.

Based in the Conference Sales Team at The ICC and reporting to the Account Director, International Associations, you will be a key member of the sales team. You will be an enthusiastic self-starter who can work on your own initiative to identify new international conferences and their national contacts. You will be diligent, patient, methodical, have excellent communication skills and you will relish the challenge of researching the opportunities that await you.
